CNN's Zoraida Sambolin Opens Up About Breast Cancer Diagnosis
CNN's Zoraida Sambolin opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis on Tuesday's "AC360," telling host Anderson Cooper that it was a matter of "when, not if." -->
After Angelina Jolie published a candid op-ed in the New York Times Tuesday morning detailing her decision to undergo a preventive double mastectomy, Sambolin, who hosts CNN's early morning show, revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer three week ago and was going to have a double mastectomy. "Angelina Jolie shares her story of a double mastectomy and gives me strength and an opening," she wrote on her Facebook wall.
--> Sambolin said she had a breast cancer scare two years ago, and underwent a lumpectomy that was benign. "I've always been waiting on this hot seat for this news that could perhaps happen. So I wasn't so shocked; it's still difficult to hear that," Sambolin said.
Sambolin also discussed how difficult it was to tell her children, particularly her nine-year-old daughter. "As a woman, my initial reaction was, 'What have I done?'" Sambolin said, fighting back tears. "And I know that I didn't do anything, but I was so worried about her and what does her future hold?"
